No, the reason I’m writing this post is that I got bored this weekend, so I unsheathed my bass (which, I sometimes do even when I’m NOT bored and should be doing something more “important”). I decided to put up a recording of myself playing along with Foreplay/Long Time” by Boston. Hopefully you can distinguish my guitar from the original recording; I mixed it in loud, and I embellished ever-so-slightly so you could tell I’m actually playing

Now, for those of you who don’t know, the song in its entirety is LONG. Well, it’s really two songs in one: There’s “Foreplay”, the aptly titled, orgasm inducing introduction, which is followed by the actual song, “Long Time”. “Foreplay” is easily one of the best rock overtures I’ve ever heard (that is if you can call a rock song intro an “overture“). The bass part isn’t really all that difficult, but it’s fun to play, and it’s energetic. Plus, it moves quickly enough that it stretches out the fingers, making it a useful warm-up exercise that actually sounds musical. My next move, if I stay interested in covering the whole intro (which never really was my intention, but now I’m intrigued), is to nail down the keyboard part, which also isn’t technically difficult, but it’s FAST. Besides, the rock organ Boston used is positively wicked. I LOVE it.
